Abdominoplasty

Abdominoplasty is an operation of plastic surgery for tightening the abdominal wall, where excess fatty tissue is also removed. If the skin in the area of the abdominal wall has been severely stressed by pregnancy, radical diets, or after bariatric surgery, it is usually unable to recover because it has lost its elasticity. Sports, massages, or other methods are not enough in such cases.

The excess tissue must be surgically removed. Abdominoplasty is also known as abdominoplasty or lipoabdominoplasty.

abdominoplasty before and after

Pregnancy after an abdominoplasty

If possible, you should not become pregnant within the first twelve months after an abdominoplasty, because the body needs some time for the healing of the wounds and the formation of stable scars. Pregnancy stretches the abdominal wall, so after pregnancy, the result of the tummy tuck may be altered. The body must be given a regeneration period of about six weeks after pregnancy to detect possible effects on the abdominoplasty. It can be considered afterward whether another abdominoplasty is necessary. It is better and easier to have the operation performed when family planning has been completed. In principle, pregnancy is possible after an abdominoplasty.

Abdominoplasty after bariatric surgery?

After bariatric surgery, patients experience rapid weight loss. In this case, losing weight should be completely stopped in order to be operated.

This period is usually 1 year. Some patients continue to lose weight even after 1 year. In this case, the patient should wait until the ideal weight is reached and then decide to undergo abdominoplasty.

How to perform an abdominoplasty?

An incision is made on the lower abdominal wall so that the scar can be hidden in the underwear. In patients who have had a C-section, this scar is made over the C-section. In mini-abdominoplasty, the scar is as long as the C-section scar or 1-2 cm longer, while in full tummy tuck, the C-section scar is extended. Sagging and cracked skin, as well as excess fat, are lifted from the abdominal muscles if the skin is sufficiently elastic, it can be tightened down and the excess removed. After removal, the weaknesses in the muscle tissue are repaired. In a full tummy tuck, the enlarged belly button is shaped by making it smaller. Then the skin and slipping muscle tissue are tightened and the abdominal skin is closed with aesthetic sutures. Finally, drains are placed to reduce edema formation. The procedure is completed by wearing a corset to support the stitches and support the newly sculpted abdominal shape.
